#16 Wiki

I am aware of wikipedia but now I understand the concept ofwikis, an online tool that allows collaborative effort and anyone can contribute. The uses for a library are limitless. Searching some of the other library wikis showed this. Feedback from borrowers on the library subject guides, adding their reviews, and other titles they like is a fantastic idea. I also like the idea of a website that creates a community hub where everyone can add their own community's activities and the idea that the final content should reflect the consensus within the community. A wiki for one stop community information.

I particularly liked some of the online tutorials that libraries have set up on their wiki. Try mouserobics from the St Joseph County Public library wiki

There are new concepts for developing and delivering library services. Virtual libraries meet users in their own space. Libraries are communities and we need to adapt as communities change and learn new technologies. Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 are about people sharing trading and collaborating, haven't libraries always shared this philosophy? Learning 2.0 has been a great opportunity to learn some of the new technology that people are using to share, trade and collaborate information. The library of the future? Who knows what this will look like or where new technology is taking us, but it is exciting. Virtual Library but real librarians

Libraries have come a long way from chaining books on shelves to prevent stealing. Libraries need to adapt to the changing communities around them. Learning new technology is a big part of this. What will the library of the future look like? Original photo from Librophiliac

A keyword search of learning 2.0 in blog posts gave 6329 results, tags, 623 results and a seach in the blog directory gave 774 results. I have claimed my blog and started adding favourites including the site above. I have also added the technorati button to my blog so that others can add my blog as a favourite.

This tool is a great idea. Setting up an account was easy. I love being able to access my favourite sites from any computer. I have only tagged a few of the sites that I use, but will definately add others. Also viewing other peoples' tags is interesting. A quick look took me to me to lots of other links by like minded people. A popular travel site was wiki travel that I have added to my favourites.
